This steakhouse is hands down the finest I've been to! The quality of the meat was outstanding—perfectly aged, tender, and packed with rich, mouth-watering flavor. And such a good velue! The atmosphere adds to the charm: a lovely antique interior that feels timeless, with warm wood accents, cozy lighting, and classic decor that makes the whole experience feel like a special occasion. It’s the perfect place to relax and savor every bite. The staff were kind and attentive, always making sure our drinks were full and our needs met without ever being intrusive. Absolutely the best

An establishment and we came back for a visit after many years. The quality of the steak was great and the menu looked to be the same (although it is significantly more expensive now - let’s blame COVID for that). The steak was cooked to perfection and although the menu recommended medium, I think I can go with a medium-rare the next time around. I had ordered a 200g and I think that was a perfect size for me. Sticky date pudding was also tasty and something I recommend to end the night with. Staff service was also top notch.

Old-school institution grilling meats right in front of you. They bring out the meat to show you before cooking it, which is a cool experience. I did enjoy mine — but one of the other steaks at the table didn’t hit the mark. My eye fillet tasted good, and the scotch fillet I tried was probably the best steak of the night very tender, medium rare, salted fine, and you can add more to your liking. But the other eye fillet someone had was very bland, tasteless, and not well salted at all. Entrees were cooked very nicely though. The beef chevapi looking meat was delicious, the sausages were great, and the roasted meats were all done well. Chips were good. Salad was super basic felt like it was just bulked with a bit of dressing. Simple and fresh. My steak and the scotch fillet I tried, I’d give a 5/5. But that other steak was closer to a 2/5. They also make you order a main each per person, which is annoying because you can’t just share a 500g steak obviously a business decision to maximise spend.

A Divine First-Time Experience with a Special Connection! We finally decided to visit Charcoal Grill on the Hill, despite living just around the corner, and wow—it was an absolute revelation! This place is a definite 5-star gem. The evening started with a wonderful surprise. As someone from Slovenia, I noticed a familiar name on the wine list. I asked where the person who curated the list was from, and finding out they were from Serbia was a great, personal touch that immediately made the experience feel special. From there, the food was spectacular. We started with the Wagyu Čevapčiči, and it just went uphill from there! The steaks were absolutely divine—cooked to perfection and incredibly flavorful. We finished the meal with delicious palačinke and were so impressed by how well the wine was paired throughout. We'll definitely be coming back. This is more than just a great meal; it's a fantastic all-around experience. Hvala, see you soon!

Charcoal Grill on the Hill is an old-school Melbourne institution – and for good reason. I went twice, and both times the food was excellent. The décor is very traditional and basic, but that’s part of the charm: it’s all about the quality of the meat here. The steaks are cooked perfectly over charcoal, rich in flavour and spot on for portion size. The sausages and starters are also great, with simple sides that keep the focus on the main event. Service is efficient and no-nonsense, keeping with the old-style atmosphere. It’s not flashy or modern, but if you want some of the best steak in Melbourne, this place is a must.
